Mr. Davey who has rendered valuable service to Commander Beckwith as reported in my Despatch No. 318 of the 10th. August, 1916, was admitted to the Government Civil Hospital on the 9th. August suffering from an aneurism of the abdominal aorta and chronic nephritis to which he succumbed on the 15th. August.

I did not telegraph at the time of Mr. Davey's admission to Hospital as his wife and family were resident in Hongkong but I reported his death by telegram at the request of Mrs. Davey who desired that his brother should be the first to be informed so as to enable him to convey the news to Mr. Davey's mother who is a very old lady to whom the sudden news might have proved dangerous.

A report by the Superintendent of the Govern-

-ment Civil Hospital is enclosed.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Ama
